Recognizing the urgent need to decarbonize steelmaking, Electra is rapidly scaling its technology with the goal of commercial deployment by the end of the decade. We are currently building a Pilot system onsite at our Boulder, Colorado headquarters with an estimated completion date by the end of 2023.
Having successfully scaled our technology small lab-scale production of single sided 3 cm2 iron plates in early 2021, to double sided 400 cm2 plates (~4kg of iron per plate) in 2022, the Pilot system will demonstrate our technology and process at a commercial size of ~1m2. Our Pilot system will electroplate clean iron, with ~80kg (~175 pounds) of iron per plate and provide clean iron for EAF steelmakers.
